The Lublin Metropolitan Area is located in Eastern Poland in the central part of the Lubelskie Voivodeship. It covers the area of 4221 sq km, which constitutes 16.8 % of the voivodeship and 1.3 % of the country.

The region encompasses the poviats of: Lublin (1 680 km²), Lubartów (1 289 km²), Łęczna (637 km²), Świdnik (468 km²) and Lublin Municipality (147 km²).

The Lublin agglomeration consists of 41 communes located within a distance of approximately 70 km from the region’s capital city - Lublin. It comprises 3 urban communes, 6 semi-urban communes and 32 rural communes including:

Lubartów Poviat communes: 

• urban commune:  Lubartów 
• semi-urban communes: Kock, Ostrów Lubelski 
• rural communes: Abramów, Firlej, Jeziorzany, Kamionka, Lubartów, Michów, Niedźwiada, Ostrówek, Serniki, Uścimów.

Lublin Poviat communes: 

• semi-urban communes: Bełżyce, Bychawa 
• rural communes: Borzechów, Garbów, Głusk, Jabłonna, Jastków, Konopnica, Krzczonów, Niedrzwica Duża, Niemce, Strzyżewice, Wojciechów, Wólka, Wysokie, Zakrzew.

Łęczna Poviat communes: 

• semi-urban communes: Łęczna 
• rural communes: Cyców, Ludwin, Milejów, Puchaczów, Spiczyn.

Świdnik Poviat communes: 

• urban commune:  Świdnik
• semi-urban communes: Piaski 
• rural communes: Mełgiew, Rybczewice, Trawniki.
